THE SPOT AT CHICKEN BAY KARPATHOS

Chicken Bay is a perfect spot for beginners and intermediate windsurfers. It is a protected lagoon which is only 5 minutes’ walk away from the Main Station in Gun Bay. Chicken bay is a shallow bay with flat water which provides a very safe and easy environment for improving your skills. Apart from the beginner lessons, Chicken Bay is also ideal for learning planing, using the harness and footstraps or waterstart. Even freestylers come to practice their tricks to Chicken Bay.

The bay is a U-shaped lagoon protected by land. Along the 300 meters beach there is a wide shallow area with sandy bottom. Especially pleasant is the sandy bottom, both on the beach and in the water, which makes walking barefoot a real pleasure. There is also a possibility to windsurf between Gun Bay and Chicken Bay in both directions (waterstart and harness skills necessary).

WIND AND WAVES IN CHICKEN BAY

The main direction of the wind is north-west (Meltemi), which is cross-offshore from the left. The specialty about Meltemi is that it blows all day and is not dependent on thermic, which makes it possible to have multiple windsurf sessions a day.The wind force is around 1 Beaufort less then in Gun Bay. Even with the strong winds in the summer months (July, August) the bay remains safe for beginners. The water is flat with almost none or very small chop which makes practicing new skills much easier.

ION CLUB STATION IN CHICKEN BAY

Our station in Chicken Bay is perfectly located at the end of the beach with easy way to launch and return. The station is directly on the beach only a couple meters from the water. Equipment at the station includes also the whole range of beginner boards and sails, with special light equipment for kids. You can freely switch between the two stations (Gun Bay & Chicken Bay) at any time and as often as you like, included transfer of your fixed board or board of your wish.
